Marilyn Monroe
Marilyn Monroe was born on June 1, 1926 as Norma Jeane Mortenson. She grew up as an orphan in foster care and thought that the only way out was to get married. At the age of 16, she was married to her boyfriend Jimmy Dougherty on June 19, 1942. As a merchant marine, he traveled a lot. It was during these times when her husband was sent out to the South Pacific that Monroe was discovered by a photographer. She was then working at an ammunitions factory in Burbank. By the time her husband returned in 1946, Monroe had already landed a career as a model, and soon the couple divorced. To date, there are Marilyn Monroe prints from the late actress’ career that have been immortalized in photographs and posters by many famous artists.
1946 was also the year that she signed her first ever movie contract. With her new project, she created a new image for herself by dying her hair blonde, and initiated the name Marilyn Monroe. It was in the 1950s that her career finally took off. In 1950, her role in the “Asphalt Jungle” by John Huston gained her the attention of the press. In the same year, she impressed the critics along with Bette Davis in “All about Eve”.
Until 1961, the films that Monroe starred in earned over $200 million in the box office. Before her sudden death, she was dismissed from her last film project due to many days of absences for filming. At the age of 36, she was found dead in her Los Angeles home on August 5, 1962. According to reports, an empty bottle of sleeping pills were found by her bed, ruling out any possibility of murder. After investigation, it has been declared that Monroe had died of a drug overdose. Although her life and career passed quickly, Monroe still remains to be popular as an iconic symbol of sex appeal and beauty.
In today’s showbiz industry, many companies and organizations have managed to maintain a collection of Marilyn Monroe prints for exhibits and auctions. One of the famous pieces came from Andy Warhol, who was a key figure in Pop Art. Another popular print of Monroe is from artist Frank Ritter. The portrait is called “Reclined Marilyn”, which showcases a painting of the actress in black and white, but featured her red lips. Other Marilyn Monroe prints include other famous Hollywood celebrities. Chris Consani is an artist who is famous for putting together these celebrities in one picture. One of his creations is called “Legal Action” and showcases Monroe with Humphrey Bogart, Elvis Presley, and James Dean playing pool. Last but not least, the picture that Monroe is well known for is from the movie “Seven Year Itch”, where the actress stands over a grate in the street. The image captures Monroe where the air blows up her skirt and she tries to cover her thighs with one hand and still posing with the other. This is one of her most famous images which is still being searched until now.
