Gockel works with traditional painting, as well as with etchings, lithographs and screen printing.
Gockel is the type of artist whose personality has a lot to do with his success. A self-proclaimed "hyperactive," Gockel is prodigious in his output simply because he can't stop painting. He also has a deep drive to be a success, which has led him and his company to push and market his art all over the world. Alfred Gockel's Early life
Alfred Gockel, born as Alfred Alexander Gockel is one of the most renowned artists in the contemporary arts. He was born in the year 1952 in a small town of Germany called Ludinghausen. He was a painter by heart from his childhood itself. His first published work came out in public when he was only 8 years of age. After his high school graduation, he went to the Polytechnic Academy in 1973 which is in Munster. He had then focused on various forms of typography, graphic designing and advertising. Following his graduation from the Academy in 1977, he started working as a freelance artist and designer. He had also started conducting a series of lectures on graphic design and typography in his Alma Mater, the Polytechnic Academy.
In the next 4 years, he has developed his own style in paintings that extensively used bright colors, bold straight and curvaceous lines and were very communicative in nature. He had started on with a successful stint in painting and partnered with this wife to establish Avant Art, a company for publishing arts. Ever since establishment in 1983, it has become one of the major dealers in abstract art and clients reside in more than 50 countries around the globe.
Gockel only took up the idea of being a full time painter in 1980. He used to work at the coal mines of his town when he was younger. Gockel says that through his paintings he wants to express the joy that was absent in his past. His challenging situations brought about a huge change in him and this is the reason why he used each and every imagery in a captivating manner and uses some spectacular colors to depict the positive emotions that he wants to portray.
He is still very fond of his boyhood lifestyle and often goes to the forests in Germany to roam around with his two dogs. This inspires his creativity and he brings some not-so-positive events in his past and uses them to create awe inspiring masterpieces. In fact, this has become his signature style of painting. You can also see a lot of serigraphy in his work.
His boyhood interest in graphic designing has also been fulfilled as his designs are being used extensively in sportswear industry, carpet and porcelain industry. He also bought a mill in 1988 which is now the focal point of all his graphic printing and etching. Currently living in Germany, his ‘action paintings’ are becoming popular by the day.
