Roy Lichtenstein Prints - Artist Biography

Roy Lichtenstein is a New York native, and considered one of the greatest artists of the Pop Art movement. Lichtenstein is best known for his use of comic strips and advertising themes within his work, making him very popular with art collectors everywhere. Many art enthusiasts are drawn to his modern imagery and vibrant colors, not to mention the underlying social commentary found in his works.
Lichtenstein first made use of popular images in 1956, when he first created the "Ten Dollar Bill" print. A three-year period of abstract painting followed, for which Lichtenstein was a virtual unknown. His big break in the art world occurred when he created his first painting in the style

of a comic strip, featuring the famous Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck characters.
It is important to note that Lichtenstein worked primarily with stencils, allowing him to create perfect uniform rows of dots, which gave his work the look of a magnified print ad. Despite the fact that he slaved over his work in the same manner one would expect to see from all of the great masters, Lichtenstein wanted his art to look machine made. He strove to ensure that a single brush stroke could not be seen, taking painstaking efforts to perfect his craft.
In addition to paintings, Lichtenstein produced prints using a variety of lithograph, screen printing, and etching techniques. His art has been characterized as ironic and clever, especially evident in works such as "Reflections on Art" and "Drowning Girl." When you consider the great lengths he went to create his pixilated masterpieces, Lichtenstein's art is truly awe-inspiring. These details are beautifully captured in the prints offered here through PosterCheckOut; each one captures the essence of Roy Lichtenstein's groundbreaking vision.
