Max Hayslette - Artist Biography
Max Hayslette in an American artist, born in 1930 in West Virginia. He calls himself a romantic artist, and is famed for his process--which allows his imagination to interact with his memory, re-creating objects and locations in his mind's eye. What he is attempting to do is capture an essence or a deeper spiritual truth of the subjects of his paintings, blending that essence with his own spirit and creating something new of the combination.
His works often have a warmth and gentleness to them. Twilight is one of Hayslette's favorite times, and there is a sense in his works that spiritual truths (at least as Hayslette perceives them) are best found in this time between darkness and light. His works capture the beauty in the world around him--sometimes with extremely vivid detail, but other times almost blurred, as if capturing the way we remember and feel more than the way that a camera would capture a fixed image.
Hayslette loves to paint in silence, and fans of his work feel as though his canvases reflect that. There is often a stillness and timelessness in Hayslette's paintings, as if one would never age looking at them and might even be transported into them. This makes them extremely popular for interior decorating, as they are so beautiful, serene, and inviting.
His work can vary from the realistic (in works like Music of the Morning II, St. Cirg, and Cherry in the Spring) to the representational (as seen in Valley of the Kings II).
