Francisco De Goya Prints - Artist Biography

Francisco De Goya is one of the famous painters known for his lovely paintings that are full of romance. He was born on 30th March 1746 in Spain and served as court painter in the Spanish crown. His paintings reflected a bold attitude, which later became the model of the upcoming painters. Goya belonged to a middle class family with his father working as a gilder. They did not even have their own home but in the year 1749, his father purchased a home in Saragossa. As Goya had developed an interest in paintings, he worked with several people start his career. He studied this art from a very popular painter of that time Anton Raphael Mengs.

ived the second prize for his painting. After winning the competition, he went back to his hometown Saragossa and started the work of painting the walls of the Basilica of the Pillars. He also focussed on his studies and slowly people began recognizing his work and he became popular for his toner quality.
In the year 1773, Francisco married his friend’s sister Josefa (Bayeu’s sister) and this marriage opened new doors of success for him. He got associated with the Royal Academy of Fine Art and there was no looking back again. He founds lots of work and people really appreciated his paintings and the kind of work he was doing. He designed over 42 patterns in just five years and all of them were creative, unique and just marvellous. These patterns were used by Spanish monarchs in their palaces for decoration. This gave him the opportunity to serve the royal court and also paint in the San Francisco El Grande Church located in Madrid.
While working in Madrid, he was appointed as one of the important members of none other than the Royal Academy of Fine Art. This was definitely a new turn in his life. The paintings of Goya include “Maja” which is considered to be his finest works. There are two paintings of a woman; one is naked while the other one is with clothes. He also created a painting of a very famous model Duchess of Alba and there were rumours that Goya had an affair with her. His black paintings are also very popular done in his own house.
