Alexander Calder - Artist Biography
Alexander Calder is one of the most influential American artists of the last century. His most famous work is primarily sculpture in the Abstract Kinetic style, but he also created a number of famous abstract paintings. Calder's sculptures are unmistakable, as they are epic works constructed of wires, twisted into elaborate and evocative figures in space. Most of them are designed to be placed outside, as they require so much space--and many of his famous mobiles also rely on the natural movement of air to bring them to life.
